 Matched
By Ally Condie

Thesis statement:
In matched, Ally Condie shows how the society limits choices and forces people to rebel.
Directional statement:
Cassia grows and accepts, understands and questions, and does something to make a change.
Three points:
1: growing up and knowing what’s right
·         -“Your marriage contract will take place when you are twenty-one. Studies have shown that the fertility of both men and women peaks at the age of twenty-four. The matching system has been constructed to allow those who match to have their children near this age- providing for the highest likelihood of healthy offspring.”(18)
·         -“I am part of the matching department, authorized to deal with information malfunctions, since matching is so important to the society, it is very well regulated.”(44)
·         -“Please consider carefully weather you are a good candidate to be matched. Remember, the singles are equally important in the society. As you are aware the current leader of the society is a single.”(46)
 2: Questioning and arguing
·         -“Don’t you let yourself think about winning?’ ‘I always think about winning”(237)
·         -“But if the system is wrong, false and unreal, then what about the love between my parents? If their love was born because of the society, can it still be real, good and right?”(222)
·         -“If he came with me and stood there together, I would learn even more about Ky.”(186)
3: Doing what is believed to be right.
·         -“To a new beginning’ I say to myself, and I shift my feet the tiniest bit so I crush the tablet; it bleeds beneath my feet. “(325)
·         -“They told you about the life expectancy with the positions, didn’t they? That’s why you put me where you did.”(313)
·         -“It is better to sit quickly before I am unable to say it at all. ‘I think that I am falling in love with someone else.’ Almost before I’m finished he is shaking his head saying no.”(305)
